Smooth and quiet I have an older Cycleops wind trainer which has a rather large diameter drum / roller for the tire. I usually run my road bikes on this trainer with the same 700x23c or 25c slick road tires I would use outside. They seemed fine and relatively quiet and not excessively worn by the trainer. But I bought a new bike and figured I would try one of these for this winter as I usually ride over a thousand miles on a few of my bikes on my trainer during the winter months here in Wisconsin.
