If this is your first time replacing a chain, make sure to pick up a chain breaker tool! The cheapest 1/8-inch wide bike chain anywhere! If you’re not sure what width your current chain is, use a ruler to measure the space between the interior sets of plates on your chain. The common chain widths are 1/8 or 3/32 inches. Generally, purpose-built single-speed/fixed gear bikes use 1/8 chains, whereas single-speed bikes converted from geared/derailleur bikes use 3/32 chain. Extremely Durable Bought this almost a year ago as a replacement chain for my ’58 Raleigh Sports and I have yet to come across any defects. This thing is ridden in hilly Ann Arbor more than 60 miles a week during the school year. I oil it only occasionally and I admit that I’m not too good with routinely cleaning the chain (I think I’ve maybe done it twice? oops), but I have yet to notice any sort of stretching or excessive wear.
