Once set up properly, these are simply the best pads you can buy. I’ve been using these Kool-Stop MTN pads for a while now. They are simply the best rim-brake pads I have ever used. Incredible stopping performance These pads are amazing. I’ve got only a pair of them (only have rear brakes) on an old 26″ mountain bike, which I did my best to clean the rim, but it’s admittedly not very true any longer, and parts of the surface are anything but flat or smooth (aluminum is kind of gouged in spots). Squeal like a pig! First, I love kool stop brake pads for the most part. They brake excellently and they install nicely too. I’ve used a variety of the cool stops from the old school block pads to these fancy pants pads. I won’t buy any other brand of pads for my bikes because I ride year round and need something that will stop me in the rain, snow, and other adverse conditions where most other pads just let the rim slip right by.
