Light weight, attractive, relatively effective wheel protection I put these on my kid’s bike to replace the quick-release axles to make the wheels more theft resistant. They’re nice — attractive, relatively light, and appear relatively effective. But let’s be clear about what these are and are not. My kid has a $500 Trek with decent wheels but certainly nothing spectacular. If your wheels themselves cost $500 a pop, I wouldn’t rely on these or any other locking axle for that matter to protect them. The end caps on these, for example, are aluminum, and if I…
