Built like a tank, for a tank… These tires are 2.5 inches wide. My mountain bike is at best supposed to have 2.3″ tires on it. Since there are no knobbies, I can barely get away with these beasts. I have, maybe, a 1/4″ clearance on both sides of wheel in rear triangle. I bought these cause they looked good and were wide tires for road riding around neighborhood. After I lose some weight and get back on road bike, I will change back to my dirt tires to go real MTB riding. For now, I am stuck on these babies…
Perfect for Road Unicycling I put this tire on my 29″ unicycle after having troubles with flats associated with the Schwalbe Big Apple tire (2.35″ wide version). The Maxxis Hookworm fit much better on the rim than the Big Apple. It’s just as wide and seems just as tall. The ride is outstanding. The tire took a little getting used to because it seems heavy and that changes the dynamics of mounting the unicycle slightly. However, now that I’m used to it I consider it an advantage – this tire rolls very easily…
I bought these to replace the Bontrager XR2 29″ tires, on my Trek Marlin 7 bike.These were my findings:These tires do weigh about 0.4kg more (each) than the XR2’s that I took off…. but I accidentally found a way to counter the weight issue:I also ordered Foss explosion-proof inner tubes to go with these Hookworm tires. Once I got it, I discovered that the Foss inner tubes were much lighter than the standard inner tubes that i have removed.So in the end…
